Standing Up for House District 55: Protecting Our Democracy and Listening to Our Communities

As I continue my campaign for Kentucky House District 55, I am reminded every day why this race matters. Our district deserves leadership that protects democratic values, strengthens local communities, and ensures that every Kentuckian has a voice at the ballot box.

Concern Over Pending Legislation: SB 72 (2026 Session)

One of the most pressing issues on the horizon is SB 72 (2026) in the Kentucky General Assembly. While presented as an administrative update to election procedures, many advocates across the Commonwealth have raised serious concerns about how proposed changes could impact voter access.

At a time when civic participation should be expanded—not restricted—we must carefully evaluate any legislation that alters voting regulations. Proposed changes related to voter identification, ballot access, and administrative procedures risk disproportionately affecting:

•      Seniors

•      College students

•      Rural voters

•      Working families

•      Individuals with limited transportation access

Safeguarding the integrity of elections must go hand in hand with protecting accessibility. We cannot support policies that may unintentionally create barriers to participation or suppress voter turnout.

As Democrats, we believe in fair elections, transparent processes, and expanding—not limiting—access to the ballot.

Ongoing Concerns About Voter Regulations

Kentucky has already seen changes to voting regulations in recent years. While election security is important, repeated regulatory tightening raises legitimate concerns about cumulative effects on voter participation.

Policies that:

•      Reduce early voting flexibility

•      Complicate absentee ballot access

•      Increase identification burdens

•      Limit local election administration discretion

can create real obstacles for working families and underserved communities.

The right to vote is fundamental. It is not a partisan issue—it is a democratic one.

I will continue advocating for policies that:

•      Protect access to the ballot

•      Preserve local election flexibility

•      Ensure transparency without disenfranchisement

•      Strengthen public trust in our institutions

Meeting With Democratic Leaders Across the District

Over the past several weeks, I have had the privilege of visiting and speaking with key Democratic groups across House District 55, including county committees, grassroots organizers, and community advocates throughout Mercer County and surrounding areas.

These conversations have focused on:

•      Public education funding

•      Protecting rural healthcare access

•      Economic development

•      Infrastructure investment

•      Preserving democratic norms

What I’ve heard consistently is this: people want leadership that listens.

That is why we are rolling out a series of upcoming precinct meetings throughout the district. These meetings will provide an opportunity for neighbors to:

•      Share concerns about pending legislation

•      Discuss local priorities

•      Connect with fellow Democrats

•      Help shape our campaign’s platform

Your voice matters. These meetings are not just campaign stops—they are listening sessions.

Sincerely
